Mary Wollstonecraft had some very interesting thoughts involving women’s rights. In the reading, Pernicious Effects Which Arise from the Unnatural Distinctions Established in Society, Wollstonecraft brought up some interesting points about the jobs that women should do. In the 1700s women were looked at as inferior to men. Women were expected to take care of the home and serve their husbands. They were not allowed to work outside of the home. Wollstonecraft did not have the average thoughts of a feminist. She believed that it was a women’s duty to take care of her family. Taking care of a family is more important than being admired by a man. Wollstonecraft believed that nurturing children will make the woman useful and happy. She also believed that it is a woman’s job to educate her children. Being a good example for your children is important.
It may sound like Wollstonecraft agreed with the thoughts of men, but she didn’t. Even though she thought that the most important job for a woman was to be a good mother, she knew that women were capable of so much more. Women were capable of being physicians, nurses, and midwives. They were also capable of studying politics and pursuing business. Women are worth more than the beauty that they posses. That was a main point that she brought up.
Today, women have found a balance between the two lives. They are able to stay at home and raise a family, and work outside of the home. Women are very dependent and strong. Even though they have not been given all equality, there has been a huge progression.

I thought you had a very good understanding of the reading. I think Wollstonecraft still desired for women to be the nurturers of the family yet be independent at the same time.
You did a really good job of summarizing the reading. I agree, she did not have the same thoughts as the majority of feminists in her time.
some men still feel the same way as they did back in the 1700s. That women should only do what "women" are suppose to do which is take care of the home and nothing else. good blog
i agree with Diana that some men do still feel that woman should be treated as if it was still the 1700. which i feel is wrong even though i am a man in this world, i feel that every one should be treated equally at all times
